Janice Fong
Janice graduated magna cum laude from University at Buffalo, the State University of New York (SUNY) with a double major degree in Communications and Psychology. She then went on to James Cook University for her Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) degree where she worked on her dissertation entitled “Mental Health Literacy Relating to Child And Adolescent Mental Disorders in Singapore”.
Janice developed her interest in working with children with special needs while working as a Shadow Support teacher. As a Shadow Support teacher, Janice helped children with different developmental and learning needs integrate and flourish in mainstream schools through the use of targeted strategies. She is familiar with Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) techniques and used them often during her work as a Shadow Support teacher. She also liaised closely with parents and schools to create an environment best suited for the child’s learning needs. Janice is a strong advocate for adapting school curriculums to children’s individual needs so that they can thrive academically.
As an educational therapist in Total Communication, Janice works with children on their literacy, numeracy, social skills and executive functioning. Some of these children have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or intellectual disability.
Janice is the Shadow Support Manager at Shadow Advantage. She oversees all shadow cases, liaises between parents and shadow support teachers, and ensures that Shadow Advantage provides quality services.
Janice enjoys reading and practising yoga in her spare time. She speaks fluent English and Chinese.
