Kalpana Mannepalli
Kalpana graduated with a postgraduate degree in Special Education with a specialisation in ADHD, ASD and learning disabilities. She developed her keen interest in working with children when she got an opportunity to work as a Lead Teacher at a school in Jakarta, Indonesia. There she got to work with children of various nationalities where she helped them learn the foundation of the English language - phonics, reading and writing. She is trained in the Advanced Orton Gillingham approach to help individuals with reading, spelling and writing.
Kalpana started on her shadow support role in the USA where they are referred to as Paraprofessionals. She started as an active Paraprofessional in various public schools in New York City, New Jersey and Houston, Texas. Kalpana continued to work as shadow support here in Singapore. She has experience working in both MOE and International schools. As a shadow support specialist, she helped students cope in a mainstream school environment, gain real communication skills and acquire sound learning behaviour in dynamic and changeable classroom situations. She also supported students with difficulties managing behaviour and emotional regulation. She has worked with kids diagnosed with ADHD, ASD, Down Syndrome, and ODD. She is a strong advocate of inclusive education. In her role as shadow teacher, she closely liaised with schools and parents to help wards meet their educational and social needs.
Having lived and travelled in various countries across the globe, she understands different cultures, etiquette and preferences. Hence, she can easily relate to parents and children very well.
When she is not working, Kalpana enjoys traveling, meeting and networking, cooking, working out and running. She is training in Kathak, an Indian classical dance form. She is a die-hard supporter of Roger Federer! She can fluently speak 6 Indian languages, Bahasa Indonesia, and Intermediate German.
